Među glumicama za najbolju ulogu u drami konkuriraju Angelina Jolie (Changeling), Meryl Streep (Doubt), Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road), Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married) i Kristin Scott Thomas (za francuski film I’ve Loved You So Long).
Posebno je zanimljiva kategorija najboljeg sporednog glumca gdje je posthumno nominiran Heath Legder (Vitez tame), a potom i Tom Cruise (Tropska grmljavina), Robert Downey Jr. (Tropska grmljavina), Ralph Fiennes (The Duchess) i Philip Seymour Hoffman (Doubt).
Nominirane za najbolju sporednu žensku ulogu su Amy Adams (Doubt), Penelope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), Viola Davis (Doubt), Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler) i Kate Winslet (The Reader).
Holivudsko udružene stranih novinara, koje broji 90 članova, izabralo je i nominante za najbolju dramsku TV-seriju a oni su Dexter, House, In Treatment, Mad Men i True Blood.

Od 66. dodjele Zlatnih globusa, koja će se održati 11. siječnja 2009., očekuje se velika fešta i glamurozni povratak zvijezda na crveni tepih, nakon što je svečana dodjela ove godine otkazana zbog štrajka pisaca.
